Allyn Lynd has more than 25 years of federal law enforcement and private practice experience in digital forensics, cybercrime, and incident response. At the FBI, he investigated computer hackers, theft of trade secrets, cyber terrorism, cyber extortion, copyright and trademark infringements, identity theft, complex frauds using computers, and other high technology crimes.
He spent his last six years in the FBI as the lab director of the North Texas Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory, where he oversaw thousands of forensics investigations before retiring.
After leaving the FBI, he was the senior director of digital forensics and incident response at the nation’s fourth-largest health insurer. He has had a similar role at one of the major credit bureaus. Allyn has also worked at several cybersecurity consultancy/managed detection and response companies, where he has led their investigations and advised clients on restoring normal business operations.
While at the FBI, Allyn was the case agent for the first theft of trade secrets case in Texas; the case agent investigating a cyber gang responsible for hundreds of intrusions – including an intrusion into the White House and a denial of service against the FBI’s web page – resulting in millions of dollars of loss; and the case agent responsible for obtaining convictions against a local group of counterfeiters whose activities resulted in over $100 million in loss.
Allyn successfully investigated the first case of Bombing and Swatting resulting in prosecutions at the federal level; the first corporate hacking case in Texas; the first cyber-terrorism case in Texas; multiple intrusions into hospitals, schools, and other parts of the national infrastructure; insider threat cases in the financial, entertainment, transportation, retail, and insurance sector; multiple complex frauds against the telecommunications industry including a five year, multi-state, 19-person conspiracy to commit fraud resulting in convictions of up to 40 years in jail.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Allyn served for eight years, including a tour in Operations Desert Shield and Storm. Allyn left the Army for the FBI in 1997.
